Free Sample Videos of Different Formats and Containers to Download

Here are some video sample files of various formats that might be useful for analysis, experiments, or simple tests. All videos were recorded with Panasonic Lumix S5MII. I also wrote an article and video regarding this camera and some video encoding concepts. The videos are free to download and use under CC0 licence. No restrictions are placed on the usage of these videos. The videos are encoded in different compression formats, with different pixel formats, and also shot in different color profiles. Only the color profiles are shot multiple times. The rest of the samples consist of the same footage, transcoded with ffmpeg binary and appropriate codecs. The resolution of the video is 4K 3840×2160 and framerate of 25 fps. The videos were shot with the smallest aperture size of f22.

Video Coding Formats

Each video here is encoded with different compression format. These encoding standards are implemented in various converters called codecs (coders/decoders). The pixel format used in these videos is yuv422p10le which is a 10-bit video.

The difference between 8 and 10 bit videos is demonstrated here. Standard color profile and log are used as log is often used with 10-bit videos. The videos are encoded in AV1 format using libaom-av1 codec with CRF set to 15, with yuv422 chroma subsampling.
